As it has been a few months since my last post, about a date in April, I will try and finish before I'm graduated from college! I will try to make the posts a little shorter and possibly less detailed, since I doubt many of you care about every single detail I did. I write it that way so one day, when I forget, I can look back and remember what I did while I was abroad. Who knows when I'll be abroad again, especially for a length of time like 3-4 months. Here goes:
April 16th, 2010
Today we headed off to Canterbury, one of the places that I wanted to see while in England. In high school and in a literature class in college I read some stories from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, it's only fitting to actually see where these pilgrims were going. We got up, ate and hopped on the bus. Mark was not going, so Beth was the only program head attending with us. We had one girl who didn't want to go, the drama around Vandon House got to her and I don't think she wanted to attend because of some people in the program. If would had spent time with these people, you might not have wanted to go either. The ride was about 2 hours or so, I believe I slept some. Once we got there, we walked to where we would later meet, at least nearby to where we would meet. We then were given an our or so to walk around before we grouped up again for the tours. I walked with Carissa, Allison, and Kiley, mostly some of the only girls I hung out with while in London. We walked down the major street area, with most of the shopping and just popped our heads into some stores. We eventually headed back and waited for people to slowly trickle in. Of course, some girls just had to be late, not surprised! We then headed into the yard outside of the Cathedral. We took a 'Vandon House, London Spring 2010' group photo before we split into our groups. We were allowed to take pictures but in one area we couldn't, of course one kid did. It somewhat upsets me when people don't follow the rules like that. For some people we do not want to get into trouble, as I would love to have photos of things that can't be photographed, be respectful and don't take photos either. Anyway, the tour was about 1 1/2 hours. The Cathedral was amazing and so much history to it! Right now, I can't remember much of it. Some King was buried there, that is why all the pilgrims came, eventually they removed his coffin, and have a candle in it's place. After our tour I again went with the girls and we headed to Pizza Hut for lunch. Ah English food ;) We had the buffet which was good, I do enjoy my pizza, and for dessert Carissa, Allison and I had this hot cookie dough dessert. It was cookie dough on the bottom of the giant bowl, partially cooked, with ice cream and fudge on top. Pretty much heaven! After that we did some more popping our heads into stores until it was time to head back to the bus. I did end up buying some flags there, I think my thing will be to try and get a flag for every country I have been to. I think it's a good idea at least. I don't need to hang them all up but to have them as a memory is something I like.
As I probably mentioned in last posts, our internet was having some major issues in Vandon House, so I spent the evening in the dining room again. Kiley had left, I believe for Wales, after we returned so I was alone again. I did enjoy that day. I love English towns, they're so quaint, in a way. Except for all those modern shops they have :)
