April 12th - last day in Roma with Morgan
We awoke early this morning so we could head to the Vatican and I could do my dome climb. We headed out, and it was a cold day which doesn't help anything. We got to the Vatican and I headed to security and inside. I did the dome climb, 551 steps. Not too bad, I conquered it and felt pretty good. I liked all the variations of the stairs. At the bottom they were wider and set further apart, but as you got up they got to be a pretty tight fit. I got some pictures I will post later. When at the top the view was amazing. You can see so much of Rome from up there, I'm glad I ended up doing it. I eventually headed back down, as there were kids up there enjoying food, taking up space. You end back up in St. Peter's Basilica so I took some more pictures and headed out to find Morgan. We headed back to the apartment and got some Pizza Boom for lunch, this time I got some chicken that was calling my name. We sat and ate our lunch, Morgan ate quickly as she had to head to class. I realized my flight was leaving about 50-60 minutes after I originally told her so she decided to skip her last class of the day. She went off to class and I spent the afternoon packing up all of my things and sat on the internet. She got back and we sat around for a while. We then headed to a McDonald's down the block, yep definitely had that as a last meal in Rome. We ate quickly and headed to the grocery store where I purchased a bunch of cookies, but shhh, don't tell. After my purchases we headed straight to the apartment to pick up my luggage and off we were to the train station so I wouldn't miss my train. When we arrived the train wasn't there just yet, but when it came a few minutes later we said our goodbyes and off I was. The train ride wasn't too bad. I just sat in a car with a bunch of people who's language I do not speak. The train ends right at the airport which is very nice and off I was to get my ticket and wait for the plane. A kind of funny story, as I was putting my coat back on after security I definitely hit one of the workers. I turned looked at her and then said sorry. She wasn't very happy but she said it was fine after I finally apologized. I'm pretty sure she still wasn't happy. Oh well, she should have watched out...anyway. I headed to my gate. I got there about an hour early so I sat and finished reading one of my books for class. Our plane was supposed to leave at 7:55, of course we didn't start boarding until after 8 and we didn't leave until about 8:30. It's really frustrating when they don't start boarding on time over here, well at least in all other countries besides the UK. I got over it after we finally took off. Something I found humorous was the way they do the safety stuff before take off. For the seat belt they say to 'fasten and unfasten seat belt like this'. Definitely not how it is done in the states, but that's ok.
I slept for part of the ride back and was finally glad to make it back. After going through the dreadful UK Border Agency and getting my bag I headed back to VH where I pretty much set my luggage down and relaxed for the rest of the night.
It was a very successful Easter holiday and I am so glad I got to spend it with people I know. I had a great time in Greece with Kelsey, a great time in Rome with Kelsey and Morgan and then a great time with just Morgan. But, now it is back to crunch time. Cheers!
