April 7th - 2nd and last day in Santorini
Our alarms went off around 8 and we got ready for our day. We packed our things up and then headed out. We turned in our key and then drug our luggage to the first hotel we were originally going to stay at. We set our luggage in one of the rooms while we left to do our thing for the day. We headed back to Corners to eat breakfast. Kelsey and I both go waffles, they were delicious, again. We headed to the bus station to catch a bus to Perissa where they have a black beach. It took us about 55 minutes to get there and when we saw it we decided to stay on the bus and head back to Fira. Since it wasn't tourist season all other towns seemed kind of dead. It would have been cool to see the black beach, but I didn't want to be stuck there for a long time and I didn't know when the next bus would be there to pick us up. To get on the bus we had to pay 2 euros, and since the sign said nothing about it being one way I figured it would be total. Wrong, when we got back off the bus we had to pay another 2 euros. I would have tried to fight, but that guy wasn't going to have anything of the sort, as he was taking money and giving you a very worthless ticket. When we got back we headed a different way up the cliff. We noticed that it was very busy today in Santorini and a lot more shops were actually open. Later we realized that there was a cruise ship down below so all the people on the cruise were in Fira for the day, or on other parts of the island. I found some postcards that I bought and then we walked along the cliff more. After looking through some more shops we headed to 'our' spot. The place we had been to the night before and spent a while there. It had a great view of the sea and some other smaller islands/volcano. I was getting a little bored sitting around so I decided to do some more exploring past our spot, the area we didn't trek to the day before. I climbed some stairs, being careful so I wouldn't slip and once I got a little ways further you had an even better view of Fira and the island. It was so breathtaking. I really could move to Santorini. I have no idea what I would do, but it's gorgeous so who cares. I didn't have my watch on, as I didn't want a weird watch tan line so I decided to head back. We still had a little time before we needed to leave. The hotel guy was taking a few people down to the port a little before 3pm and he didn't want to take us down later so we had to go at that time. Which kind of sucked but oh well. Finally we decided to head back so we could get something to eat. Kelsey grabbed another quesadilla while I bought a couple gyro's, again not knowing when we would eat again. We got to the hotel and grabbed our things and just sat around. A little after the time the guy said we would leave he showed up with the van. We hopped in and were on our way. Since our ferry wasn't leaving until about 5pm we sat down in some chairs near a restaurant. Kelsey got a pizza and was going to save half of it for the ride, but she said it wasn't any good so she eventually threw it away. I walked by some souvenir shops at the port and sat some with Kelsey.
It was time to board, so we headed on. We had to buy business class tickets for this ferry ride, since it was ridiculously full the more ports we stopped at. We found our seats and settled in for another long journey back to Athens. On this ferry there were a lot of children, a couple were even near us. Part way through the littlest one starts crying, he had a fever or something. Kelsey claims that he probably wanted attention, which might have been true.
When we get back to Athens we decide to take a taxi to the hostel since it would be much easier. To get a taxi though, you have to wait in a very long line. It didn't take too long before we got in one and were off. When we got to the hostel it was pretty late and we just had to get up early again to catch a train to the airport and then off to Rome. We set our things in our room, and then headed downstairs for just a bit. Finally I went up to get ready for bed and then off I was to sleep. It was a good couple days in Santorini. I wish we could have stayed longer or there had been more to do, but that's all right. Maybe next time I will do some island hopping so I won't run out of things to do. We'll have to see, it will probably be a long time before I get back here, unfortunately. Cheers
