Off to Sanorini :)

April 6th - Santorini

After getting 8 hours of sleep and waking up a little after 5am Kelsey and I got ready for our ferry ride to Santorini.  We headed downstairs a little before 6am to wait for a couple girls who we were going to share a taxi with.  The girls finally made their way down and we were off to the main street to find a taxi.  It took us a few minutes, as a lot of the taxi's that stopped ha people in them already.  One finally pulled over that was empty and we were on our way.  We were dropped off at the port and off we were to get our tickets.  We got our tickets and then we found our ferry.  The ferry wasn't boarding yet so we stood around until it did.  When we got on board we weren't exactly sure where our seats were so we had to find someone.  We set our stuff down and Kelsey went an got something to eat.  I asked her if they took cards, but she came back and said no.  I scrounged around my bag for money, mostly coins and I went up an got a slice of chocolate bread.  I sat back down and slowly ate that as it had to last me a while.  For the ferry Kelsey and I booked the faster one.  The one that is supposed to take about 4 1/2 hours.  It really took about 5 but that's ok.  Since Kelsey and I were seated at a table with four chairs around it we just sat across from one another.  Before we left some guy came up and I was sitting in his seat.  I moved over and sat by Kelsey then.  This guy kind of creeped me out but there was nothing I could do.  I slept some of the way and listened to music as well.  I noticed that someone was watching Kill Bill a little bit in front and to the side of me, so for a while I watched that "with them".  Closer to when we were supposed to arrive the sea got a little bumpy.  Now, I'm not one who usually gets sea sick or motion sick, but since I had only eaten one small slice of bread I wasn't feeling too good when we started rocking back and forth.  I survived and we finally got to the Santorini Port.  Kelsey said our hotel guy would be there to pick us up.  We find him and get our stuff put into his van.  He also picked up a few other people as well.  After everyone is piled in we head up to Fira, literally up.  Driving up the side of the cliff reminded me of Colorado, but a little scarier, as people driving in Greece is crazy.  Eventually we made it to the hotel we would be staying at.  He tol us some information that we may like to know, about the sunset in Oia, where we could rent a 4-wheeler or scooter and some places to eat as well.  When we were told our rooms would be ready in 20 minutes and then to have a seat, Kelsey said that we would need to get to the port tomorrow afternoon as well.  At hearing that he rushed us to his other hotel where he got us a room.  He told us that we have a lot to see and shouldn't be sitting around for 20 minutes.  We unpacked our things and then headed out.  We passed by a restaurant called Corners, which the guy said had good breakfast food.  We decided to eat there.  I got scrambled eggs and bacon, as well as a crepe with nutella and nuts.  They were all very delicious!
After we were done eating and we had paid we headed up to the main road.  On the way into Fira the guy showed us some places that he suggested we may want to go.  So, we headed down a little alley way full of shops and then down more little alley's full of shops.  We headed towards the cliff and walked along that a ways.  It was beautiful.  I loved seeing the sea and a lot of the island.  It was perfect.  It was getting a little chilly and it was quite windy on the cliff so we headed back to the room where I changed out of my shorts into jeans and put my jacket on.  Then off again to the cliff.  We had saw a place that was selling sunscreen so I bought some of that, as well as stuff for the hair.  It was quite expensive and would mean I would have to check my bag, but it would all be worth it to not look like a tomato.  All afternoon we had been debating on whether to rent a scooter. Since I was the only one with a drivers license I would be the one having to drive.  I have ridden on a motorcycle before but never driven anything like it, only a bicycle.  I finally agreed to go check them out.  We went to some one and the guy asked for a license and then if we had any experience driving a scooter.  We both said no.  He suggested we don't get one then, just in case something happened, which I was definitely all right with.  We then thought of renting a car, which would have been about 25 euros.  We waited, since he said someone had to come back with it.  At first we thought he was just going to steal one, thankfully he didn't.  We discussed the car and why not renting a 4-wheeler.  For one, I did not want the 4-wheeler.  If anything screams tourist it's a 4-wheeler in Santorini.  Plus with all these Greek, crazy drivers I did not want to drive it all the way to Oia.  Kelsey didn't understand why I didn't want one, and I still don't think she understands.  It's hard to actually tell someone that you don't want to be a full fledged tourist.  We decided against waiting for the car and headed for the bus station.  The next bus to Oia wasn't going to leave until six, and the one back would have left around 6:50.  Kind of ridiculous.  Neither of us really wanted to take a two hour walk there either.  I do enjoy walking though.  We decided to find a place along the cliff to sit and watch the sunset.  We sat for a while and since it didn't seem like it was going much further, we headed to eat supper.  We passed a small place that made quesadillas so we both got one.  We then headed back to our spot and were pretty sure the sun hadn't moved.  After finishing up eating and sitting there we decided to head back down to our hotel.  No sunset for us, I will just have to come back and see it.  When we got to our hotel room we snuggled into our beds for a little bit watching the telly until Kelsey got up to shower, and when she was done I went and showered.  Off to sleep it was for another day in Santorini.  Cheers
