April 4th - Sunday
I awoke at 8, and got ready very slowly. I didn't sleep too well last night. We finally took off for breakfast. As we found out that morning the museum would not be open, I suspected it wouldn't have been. After breakfast we headed back to the hostel for something to read and we headed to find a park. We passed by the outskirts of the Temple of Zeus and then headed towards the National Gardens. Along the way we passed by a siteseeing bus. We found where one of the stops were and waited until another came around. We asked how much it was, almost 20 euros. It would have been pretty cool but I just didn't want to fork up all that money. So, we headed into the park. Kelsey had bought some Pringles so I borrowed one to eat, and then borrowed another to feed to the pigeons. I don't know why, but I find pigeons so adorable, them walking and bobbing their heads. We headed through that park which was very beautiful. We found a small little pond, with very dirty water and then we came across a little animal farm. They had goats, a peacock and some chickens. And roosters like to roll around in the dirt, quite a site to see. While we were there a boy and I'm assuming his father came up and talked to us. I saw them eye-ing us at the pond. We got a little uncomfortable and we said we had to leave. Thankfully we did not see them again. We went and sat by this other very dirty pond, which was by the sun, so we sat down and read. I sat in the sun and read for a while, until I knew the top of my head and ears were getting really red. I traded with Kelsey for the shade, as she was getting a little chilly. We finally decided to head out and we started to walk out of the park. We went down some closed of road that I believe went to a parking lot in front of the Presidential Palace. There was a a patch of green grass and a fountain so we walked down by it. As it was getting close to midday, and that's when the lamb feast was supposed to start, we headed back to the hostel. We dropped some things off in our room and then headed up to the roof where they would be cooking the lamb. We then found out that things were going to start getting done/ready until about 2-3. As it was a very nice/hot day we stayed on the roof and read some while kind of meeting other people and chatting with them. We were in the sun most of the day, which was not a good idea for me, as we had no sunscreen. Finally they brought out sausages and pita bread. I had some bread. Around 3 the lamb was finally done cooking so we got into a line for Greek salad and lamb. We were one of the first 10 or so in line, so that ended up being my lamb was pretty much skin. I didn't want any Greek salad since I'm not huge into chunks of vegetables so i just got lamb. The lamb was extremely salty, at least the part that I ate and was actually meat. The good thing about a lamb feast on the roof is we got an amazing view of Athens. We could see the Acropolis from the roof as well as far off hills and the hundreds of homes and buildings in the city. When Kelsey and I were done eating we headed to our room and then to wander around Athens. We headed out passing some tourist shops that were open as well as other restaurants that were cooking lambs as well. On our walk we went down different streets and came across other ruins we hadn't seen yet. I enjoyed walking along different side streets that tourists didn't seem to flock too, but I could tell Kelsey was getting tired. We headed back to the hostel. Kelsey stayed downstairs to check things on her ipod, while I headed upstairs. I went down later, but there was no room so I just went back to the room. Kelsey came up some time later and we talked some, trying to figure out what we were going to do with our Monday and we eventually made it to bed. I fell asleep pretty red on my shoulders and my ears as well. Investing in sunscreen sometime soon would be a good idea, hopefully we can find some. As for tomorrow, we are going to be up early again to get some things done before possibly heading to the beach with some of the guys from out hostel. Cheers
