Delfi

April 3rd, Delfi day trip

I was awoken at 8am by my very loud alarm clock, I will be sure to have to change to vibrate for the next mornings.  I finally crawled out of bed and dressed.  Around 8;30 Kelsey and I headed to get breakfast.  We ran into Scott, the Aussie, and joined him for breakfast.  Our tour to Delphi was said to meet at the Sports Bar, which is where breakfast is located.  After waiting some time and Kelsey asking a few people we found out that we were to meet at the hostel, thank you very much people who are so informative.  Kelsey and I, plus another guy headed back to the hostel where people were waiting.  I think our tour guide thought it was our fault for not being there on time, but it was not, it was the pamphlet's fault and hostels fault.  We finally headed out.  We met the coach at the main street and headed on our way.  After a few minutes of driving we all introduced ourselves and then stayed quite for the rest of the ride.
We drove for about 2 hours before stopping for a 15 minutes break.  I got a slice of some sort of marble bread and headed outside where Kelsey was taking some pictures.  We headed back on the rode and drove the rest of the way to Delfi.  On the way we drove through a small little town, also on the ride we got a great view of a different part of Greece, the more hilly part and the valley's of Greece, very beautiful.
We got to Delfi finally, it is pronounced delfee in Greece.  This is where my mood changes.  I was all happy to be getting there and seeing some more ancient ruins of Greece, until I reach into my purse and there is no camera.  I even checked in the morning to make sure I had it, of course I only felt from the bottom, I didn't exactly stick my hand into my purse to feel if it was there.  As my mood turned to not liking myself at this point since I am at a pretty amazing site and no pictures to remember it by, Kelsey did opt to let me borrow hers if I wanted to.  I felt bad though so I only asked a few times.  If I had my own camera I would have taken almost a hundred pictures, if you know me, that would be pretty accurate.  Our tour guide walked pretty fast, as I am sure she had been there many times before, but she rarely waited for the stragglers.  She was kind of crazy.  We saw most of the sites except for the stadium as it was closed for the day.  Oh, also, there was free admission.  I enjoy the first couple days before Easter in Greece.  I wish we would then have gotten some money back, but of course no such luck.  The tour was 50 euro, very pricey.
After we saw the site of Delfi we headed to the museum.  The museum was pretty neat, full of artifacts they had found at the site.  After going through the museum we headed to the gift shop hoping they had postcards, no such luck.  Probably the worst gift shop ever.  We had some time to spare before meeting the group so we got some sort of slushy thing.  Which I do regret buying, as it was 4 euro and something I could have made at home.  I need to be wary of what I buy and how much it is.  Crazy expensive European countries.  We met up with the group and off we were for a very short drive to a small sacred fountain and to eat lunch.  Lunch wasn't too bad except for all the tomatoes I picked off my sandwich.  After eating we headed back to the coach where we drove another short distance and were dropped off at one side of the town we had passed through earlier.  We had 30 minutes to walk along the main street and meet the coach on the other side.  Kelsey and I walked looking for a shop to buy postcards and took some pictures.  The town has such great views, quite spectacular.  We finally did find a shop and we finally got to purchase those postcards of ours.  Kelsey and I were the first ones at the bus and we sat there while everyone else slowing dwindled on.  We finally were on out way.  I listened to music and slept most of the way.  We did get a short bathroom break and off we were again.  When we got back to London the tour guide said that we were more than welcome to join her at 12am mass.  Kelsey and I said to each other that it would be pretty cool to go so we said we might be there.  When we got to the hostel I went straight to the room to find my camera, which was in my other purse.  I headed own where I met Kelsey and we tried to figure out what we were going to do for supper.  On the whiteboard in the hostel it said that there was a restaurant with some pretty cheap pizza.  Kelsey asked where it was and off we were.  We ended up not finding it so we headed back.  We came across another restaurant that had pizza so we stopped and ate there.  After supper we headed to a couple different gelato places to compare prices and we finally settled and bought some.
Off we were back to the hostel to figure out what we were going to do Sunday.  As it is Sunday and not a lot of places are open.  We thought of going to a museum that said it would be open and then we just hung out in the lounge.  I eventually fell asleep and a little later Kelsey told me she was going up to bed.  I gladly followed.  We ended up not going to mass with the rest of the Greek Orthoox people, as we were very exhausted and wanted sleep.  Plus we wouldn't have known what they were saying.  Of course it would have been a great experience.  Off to sleep it was, to rest up for the lamb feast we were going to have on the roof Sunday.  Cheers
